Lip Balm
DIY Natural Lip Balm:
A Simple and Customizable Recipe
Natural lip balm is incredibly easy to make and uses only three ingredients. Once you know how to do it, you'll never need to buy another lip balm again!
Ingredients
- Base Recipe:
- 24g sunflower oil
- 6g cocoa butter
- 9g beeswax
- Colour Options:
- For white: No additional ingredients needed.
- For pink: Add 1 teaspoon of alkanet root powder to the melted oils. Leave to infuse until it reaches your desired colour, then strain.
- For chocolate: Replace half of the cocoa butter with dark chocolate.
Method
1. Prepare Ingredients:
- Weigh out all ingredients into a melting pot.
2. Melt the Ingredients:
- Carefully warm the mixture until just melted. Be careful not to overheat.
3. Pour and Cool:
- Pour the mixture into lip balm tins. Allow it to cool completely.
4. Finish and Label:
- Once cooled, put on the lids and apply labels.
Tips for Smooth Lip Balm
Sometimes, cocoa butter can cause the lip balm to feel grainy. This is due to the rate at which it cools. If you find the texture isn’t to your liking, you can:
- Scoop out the lip balm, remelt it, and pour it back into the tins.
- To achieve a smoother texture, place the tins in the fridge or freezer immediately after pouring to cool them more quickly.
