How natural are your soaps?

We only use natural ingredients in all our soaps. This means that we only include it in our ingredients if it is from a plant (eg olive oil), mineral (eg clay) or animal byproduct (eg milk or honey).

Will this soap go mushy?

Accepted Answer

For best results, keep the soap in a soap dish so that it can drain and dry out between uses. This will prolong its lifespan. If allowed to sit in water, it will go mushy and dissolve away much faster.

Can you really use soap on your face? Isn't it drying?

Accepted Answer

All our soap contains naturally ocurring glycerin, which naturally moisturises the skin. After washing your face with our soap, you should only need a small amount of moisturiser/oil to complete your routine.

If you have previously used soap on your face and found it drying, this is perhaps because it was commercial soap and had had its gycerin removed, or chemical nasties added in. We urge you to give it another go with natural soap!

What is glycerin?

Glycerin is a compound naturally produced during the soapmaking process. This is great news for our skin as gycerin is a humectant, which means it pulls moisture from the air into the upper layer of your skin, thus keeping it moisturised.

Unfortunately, many commercial soap companies then remove this glycerin so they can sell it. Usually, the remaining soap is then very drying to the skin.

What is glycerin soap?

All soap naturally contains glycerin, so technically all soap could be called glycerin soap. However....

What a lot of people mean by glycerin soap is a kind of translucent or transparent soap. Actually, pure sodium based soaps (solid soaps) are never translucent. To make it translucent it must be diluted approximately 50:50 with glycerin, sugar (sucrose) and alcohol. This is then called glycerin soap. Since there is less soap in the bar, the cleansing effect will be reduced, and it will not be as bubbly. Some people may find it drying because of the alcohol.

But you also sell a translucent soap - it is glycerin soap?

Well spotted! Yes, we sell a translucent soap but it isn't glycerin soap as such... It is translucent because it is a liquid soap concentrate. When dissolved in water* it should give a clear liquid.

*The water needs to be soft. If you live in a hard water area, you will need to use deionised or distilled water.

Are your soaps vegan?

Yes, most of our soaps are vegan! Only one soap, the honey and oats soap, is not vegan.

Is your packaging eco friendly?

Accepted Answer

Yes, our packaging is as eco friendly as we can make it. The box is made from recycled cardboard, it is sealed with paper packing tape, and the address label is stuck on with plant based sellotape.

How much is postage to the UK?

We have a flat rate postage of £4.50 to anywhere in the UK, or free postage for orders over £20. If you want your order faster, first class postage is available for £6.

Can I collect my order?

If you wish, your order can be collected free of charge from Hendon, NW4. Please contact me beforehand to arrange a suitable time.

Do you post to the EU?

Yes, we post to the EU. Flat rate postage is £11 with a minimum order of £10. PLEASE NOTE: You will be responsible for paying any customs or import charges that apply.

Where are your courses held?

Our courses are held in a private home in Hendon, London, NW4.

Why is the maximum number of students 2?

As the course is held in a private home, there is not enough space for more people. We also prefer small classes as this allows you more opportunity to ask questions.

Do I need to prepare anything before the course?

We provide all the ingredients and equipment that you will need to make soap. All you need to do is make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing - long sleeves, long trousers and closed shoes. This is for safety reasons.

Certainly! For soap that is made to order, we require minimum 1 months lead time (not including delivery time) - this is how long it takes naturally made soap to cure. For very large orders, the lead time will be longer, as all our soap is handmade on site! Please contact us with your requirements and we can give you more information.
